Day 4 of Camp Wellington

27/11/14

Displaying Group outside cabin copy.JPG
The lagoon was calm and  the sun shone bright like a star in the sky. St. Mary’s students gathered around the bench seat table and huddled together, cheese and we smiled for the camera. A never forgetting photo.
Off went the bus to the Police Museum. when we reached the Museum I saw the Police college. When we went inside the police museum it was a very big place,  but we all couldn't wait to get stuck into what they had planned for us. On one of the walls in the Police museum had pictures of people who have or had been arrested in the past, one of them was a twelve year old boy that was caught stealing lollies. We got to wear the police uniforms and hard vests and everyone enjoyed dressing up and taking a photo outside at the carpark. The lady that was taking us taught us how to fingerprint and see how to discover unshown fingerprints. We had to discover who was the suspect of the crime and uncover clues to get it right. At the end we got to see if we got it right and the suspect was Heidi Harris.
We  all had a great time and learnt a lot about being a police.

Day 2 of Camp Wellington

Matui Some Island.JPG

What do you think when I say Matiu Somes Island?
Well, I think of a beautiful calm sea surrounding the island and grasses lush and green. walkways and much more.

The fresh air whiffed into my face as we sailed across the harbour to Matiu Somes Island. The sea salt stuck to the boat like slime to a rock. A fishy smell filled the air for a moment, the smell of blue furred penguins surrounded us. Pitched screams from seagulls above us followed us as we sat to eat.

A porch stood beside the walkway giving us a tremendous view of Wellington city and the sea.

It was one of the best ferry trips ever.

Day 1 Of Camp

24/11/14

Te Papa? What is this place, where is it?
Well Te Papa is a place mounted on 55 cable st, Wellington 6011 and is actually a museum of New Zealand titled Te  Papa Tongarewa.

As a museum it puts on exhibitions. An exhibition is showing or presenting something to view. We went to see an exhibition on tyrannosauruses and the family around it. A lovely man started us off by giving us a bunch of cards but these weren't the ordinary cards you play last card or go fish, these had pictures of dinosaurs that had been laminated. With these cards we had to sort these into groups. This was hard for some people, you had to think more, talk more about it and discuss as a team to get them right.

The man took us up to level 4 and we got a clipboard, a pencil and a booklet with activities to do throughout the exhibition. Around corners and more corners a moving Trex took giant steps along the wall like a bull charging towards its prey. Corners and corners later…..  a screen showed a picture of us with a whole lot of dinosaurs wondering around sniffing at the ground trying to look for something to nibble. It came to the end of exhibition and we had learnt so much and seen and interacted with so many things that we all want to go back again.

Free Writing

I choose this picture because of the beauty and architect it has.
I like my writing because I like doing descriptive writing.

Clitter, clatter, clitter, clatter the rocks under my feet moved  like a kick drum being thumped. It formed a funny figurative heart shape with longer rocks to make a stone arrow. The sun settled into the ditch and the stars shone like diamonds in a golden ring reflecting a beam of white bright light. The sea is calm and the tide is low. You can see the soft sand in between your toes.

Leadership Conference

It was at Bay City Outreach when I listened to speakers that inspired me to do good work and pick my attitude. The speaker that inspired me was Joe the head boy of HBHS. He taught me that you are able to pick your attitude in the morning and how saving one starfish can make a really big difference. I thought that Henare O’Keefe was a really fantastic speaker and taught us that you can give without loving but you can’t love without giving.

Buddy Writing

I have been working with Luccus and he is 7yrs of age. We have been dong descriptive writing by picking a picture and describing it, this is his picture piece.

Dusty is an awesome plane. Dusty is the best plane because he has my favourite colours orange and white to colour him. He flies like the wind.
The Plane has black bold wheels that stand out in the sky. The paint on Dusty is glossy when the sun is on it.

Buddy Writing

I have been working with Pearl and she is 7yrs of age. We have been dong descriptive writing by picking a picture and describing it, this is her picture piece.

She has sparkles on her hair. She has colours like pink and purple.
She has shimmery purple hooves and a white bow on her tail.

Her hair is as soft as a cushion. The pony is bright as the stars in the night sky. The pony has a rainbow on the side of her body and she has a pink plate in her hair.

Descriptive Writing

This term we are writing descriptive pieces. We are using figurative. Here is an example from an image I choose.

The Prince and Princess touched horns and a spark appeared like a diamond in the sky. They greeted their subjects with pleasure and royalty.

The moon rose as it turned on its torch to light the night. The Black Knight blended in the night like a shadow and Majestic the white Unicorn sparkled like a cotton wool cloud in the sky.

T.A.C's Triathlon

The sun blazed on us as the race started.

"Clap" The clappers snapped into the air like a bullet shot from a gun, off the Yr 7 girls on the Alexandria Farm. As I raced up the hill my legs started to collapsed and I climbed up the hill on hands and knees. While running my Dad passes me my drink bottle and I drink from it and throw it away for him to get it again and get ready for the next time I come round and I am thirsty.

Cow poo, Sheep poo,  stinging needle and thistles or prickles. We had to dodge tricks and run while we are trying not to get hurt.

Around the corner and up a steep hill then going down the side of the hill, back around and up the steepest hill and up another hill, going around the pig tail corner and around the hole track again but on the last lap you do a cut so you aren't doing three hole laps.

In the end I came 5th and had  really good experience with other schools and having this opportunity.

Recount

W.A.L.T...
We are learning to:
recount an exciting event so that our reader knows what happened and how we felt.

The New Edition to the Whanau.

It was a normal school afternoon when someone came up the drive……

A car stopped to a sudden halt. This mysterious car was none like I had ever seen before it wasn’t nana’s or Uncle’s or Aunts but it was someone from the Orchard, a man in this case and he brought something with him in the trailer.
We all went to the back door gate and a man standing in black and navy blue overalls and beside him was a furry black, brown huntaway cross. The dogs name was Sam, but we all wanted to rename him “boy” yes that was our old dogs name.

When the man left we shut the gate and waved goodbye. Sam was standing there and we all cheered and played with him  all day, while dad did his work he was peaking outside the window watching us while he finished up so he could make dinner.
My face went red and so did my brother and sisters as we thought of the things we can now do with our new dog. When we patted him he pushed us to the side and tries to talk to us.

Thinking of the marvelous things that we can do makes it a happier life.

Science Fair Project.

I enjoyed the science project by having first trying it in yr seven and then next year I will know what I have to do to be able to get into the final.

Next time I would be able to explain in more detail because I will know what they are looking for.

Overall I am proud of what I have done for my first year as a Intermediate student.

Report Writing

L.I- Is to write a report on our intermediate school.

St Mary's Intermediate Department

Have you ever found a school that has junior  and senior section in it.

I.C.T
At St Mary's we have a ton of fun learning with all the I.C.T.
In each classroom there is a fair amount of technology and  usually there is a kid in the class that usually helps the kids if the teacher can’t do it.
Every class as I said has:
Ipad- Getting onto your blogs by downloading the app and signing in to publish your work.
Chromebook- But The Seniors get their own Chromebook
Projector- To put work on the board instead of  having the teacher to write it up
Fast WiFi- Fast WiFi in the classrooms to make the internet work faster so kids can use the Internet in school, to search.

Uniform
In the Senior Department the uniforms are like your in a High School, with Skirts for girls with a blouse tucked in and a tie to match, and black socks with shoes,  while the boys wear a grey top with blue, grey and half brown and creamy brown. For the summer the boys were a maroon top and grey shorts. The girls were a light, dark blue and white checkered dress.

Finding St Marys School
St Mary's, you can find from their site and find out about what we are doing and what new equipment has come in.  You could find St Mary's Hastings on their website http://www.stmaryshastings.school.nz/Site/Welcome.ashx and see what they are up to. You can also find them on Facebook at ‘St Mary's Catholic Primary School Hastings’  and twitter at  *________ and get updates about what the school is up to.

Writing

For writing I chose a picture book that I have named "The Notes." I have aimed it at girls that can read and who believe in the tooth fairy. This is about a girl who's tooth she didn't want to give to the tooth Fairy and was afraid to give of what they might do to it. The tooth Fairy kept coming and leaving notes(hint hint).I enjoy this book because even though it's for little ones it still gives me an adventure.

Reading

We are studying sophisticated picture books in our reading.
The book is about hole in the road in the road and they don't who's hole is it  so they rang the council, the police station and the Mayor but the hole didn't belong to any of them. They thought of what to do like putting the hole in the backyard and covering the hole in the road. but in the end they did something that they didn't say what they did in the story. What I enjoyed about this story is that has good speech and had great acting pieces if you are doing this play.

TAC'S

L.I: we are learning to recount an exciting event so that our reader knows what happened & how we felt.

As Friday the 28th  February came around we got ready to leave to Windsor Park in the morning. The year 7 & 8’s  got separated into different groups the bikers went into Mrs Hawke’s class and the other group went with Mrs Hoogerbrug walking to the park, when we all arrived we sat down by a flag that said St Mary's School Hastings on it. We sat there and waited for the individuals to get numbers on their arm. Afterwards, Mrs Hutchins sent the people in teams to be registered.  When we were all waiting for the individual girls to start St Mary's School were cheering me on, there was trips, thumps and pushes. Even though I wasn't the best biker in the bunch, it was very hard and some others past me. Eventually, swimming with a throat that is dry makes it hard to catch my breath. After 6 lengths of the pool I finished and was standing proudly after coming 6th place.

I like this piece of writing: Because it reminds me of my first time at TAC'S with all the different schools.
My next step is to:Explain what was happening and how the others felt.

The Navy Band.

We went to the Navy Band in Napier.  There were lots but not loads of people. The leader/conductor asked for everybody to  stand up and copy him, then he got some people to go up and do some conducting for the band. Caden and I got picked to go up as well as some others I went second and I was very nervous but I did what the conductor said to do.

My first day at school

It was early February and nervousness filled my belly like flies tickling your legs. Adults with toddlers roaming around, people with prams running around with plastic bags filled with books, pens and school work. The teacher greeted us at the door with a big, warm, welcoming smile. She lead me to my own, new seat where I put my chairbag and books. Mum and Dad gave hugs and kisses to me and then left me so I could socialise and make new friends.About 45 minutes before morning tea we had something called “brain food,” to keep us going they said. When I got out of the classroom, the field was filled with bright colours and beautiful sounds that made me feel happy.  I come in after morning tea I would sit on the mat and the teacher would read me a book and that was very relaxing. At the end of the day we would say good afternoon Mr/Mrs___ and leave the classroom. I would wait for my Mum and Dad at the church, but if I’m still at school when the 3:00 bell goes the teacher or a principal will escort me and the kids to a safer place than being out at the front by the church. After a good nights sleep we come back in the morning refreshed.

The Owl and the Grasshopper

The Owl and the Grasshopper
An Owl was sitting in a hollow tree, sleeping on a summers afternoon. A rogue of a grasshopper came along singing in between the grass. The grasshopper went by and the Owl waited for silence again. The grasshopper greeted him as  a fellow and said,”Did you wake from my beautiful voice,”the Owl didn't answer. The grasshopper jumped up to the owl with a bottle of nectar and the Owl finished her/his nap in comfort.
Moral:Flattery is not a proof of admiration.
